At THE 9th INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE "CIVIL ENGINEERING – SCIENCE AND PRACTICE" GNP 2024 – Kolašin, Montenegro, 5-9 March 2024, the paper titled: REVIEW OF THE CURRENT STATUS OF URBAN DEVELOPMENT IN MONTENEGRO, was presented. The authors of this paper are Ivana Ćipranić, Marija Jevrić, Olga Ćalasan and Milena Ostojić, from the University of Montenegro. This paper briefly reviews the current status of urban development in Montenegro. As part of the Erasmus+ Capacity Building in Higher Education project, titled Curricula Innovation in climate-smart Urban Development Based on Green and Energy Efficiency with the non-academic sector (SmartWB), the regional issues related to urban development in the Western Balkan region were identified and reviewed. The focus was on the problems directly related to inclusive urban development identified through examining the following topics: national strategies and plans, reducing car dependency, preservation of the environment and resources, urban planning and land management, urban planning regulations, and sustainable urban planning.
In conclusion, central issues in urban development in Montenegro from a national perspective are summarised, and comments and future directions are given.
