The University of Zagreb is the oldest Croatian university and the oldest university in South-East Europe. The university was officially founded on 23 September 1669 by Emperor and King Leopold I Habsburg. University covers all scientific disciplines and today comprises 30 faculties, 3 art academies and 1 university centre with over 70,000 students and 10.000 staff.
The university and its constituents are conducting broad international cooperation with universities on all continents and are running great number of scientific (Horizon, etc.) and educational (Erasmus+, etc.) projects.
Faculty of Geodesy
The teaching of geodesy at the University of Zagreb existed more than two centuries ago as is testified by Martin Sabolović’s textbook: Exercitationes Gaeodeticae, published in Latin in 1775. Until 1919 the courses of geodesy were incorporated in the Forestry study program when Technical High School was established with the Geodetic department responsible for an 8-semester study of geodesy. In 1962 Faculty of Geodesy was established and since then bachelor, master and PhD studies in geodesy have been organized. Today Faculty offers a study of geodesy and geoinformatics to 550 students with 100 staff members.
The faculty vision is to deliver top educated experts in the field of geodesy and geoinformatics who will significantly improve the production of geoinformation and their use in society recognizing it in its mission to provide cutting-edge knowledge based on ethically recognized scientific cognition and practical skills at national and international level to all users as one of the leading components of a distinguishable and recognized University as well as provide sustainable systematic steady activities based on regulations and good experiences with continuous quality improvement in cooperation with all stakeholders.
Faculty of Geodesy has intensive national cooperation with numerous stakeholders and international scientific and educational cooperation with European, African and Asian universities running 20+ national and international projects.
